The Gambia
We assisted in the establishment of a micro-finance scheme with the National Beekeeping Association of The Gambia to enable poor farmers to set up hives and sell honey. This is essential for rural income generation, prevents rural-urban drift, and discourages de-forestation.
The Foundation has long supported nursery and primary education in various locations in the south of the country.
India
The Foundation has funded several new classrooms in schools near Darjeeling and Kalimpong, in NE India.
In the past year, with funding from several educational trusts, we have built a new school building for New Rise Academy, Kashyem, near Kalimpong. The new school was completed in just six months and will enable children from this rural area to have access to secondary school education without having to travel up to two hours in each direction.
You can view a photographic tale of the development by clicking here.
We are also funding an educational sponsorship scheme in 9 rural schools across the Kalimpong/Darjeeling region of Himalayan India. By providing the schools with annual resource grants, and supporting teacher salaries, a better quality education is affordable for more families.
Tanzania
A total of three hundred grants have so far been provided for families affected by HIV/AIDS. These have been distributed through ten local partners in northern Tanzania. These grants, in conjunction with training from western volunteers, enable families to set up small but sustainable businesses.
