About the Foundation

Who are we?

The MondoChallenge Foundation was registered by the Charity Commissioners in October 2004 and has already raised more than £550,000 to support education and business development in countries across the developing world. Our donors include UK and international companies, grant giving trusts, individuals and mondochallenge volunteers, who have long been supportive of the Foundation.

What are our aims?

We believe in community based programmes, providing education and business support projects to those who are most in need. Our local managers guide and monitor donations. This enables us to act quickly, with the support and help of local people, on grassroots projects that make a huge difference to people’s lives.

Our efforts are focused towards providing support for education at all levels, as well as working towards the relief of sickness and financial hardship through:

  1. Making grants of money to enable those suffering from HIV and related illnesses to set up small businesses, as well as providing local support to maximize the success of these businesses.
In Tanzania, we have already helped 300 HIV affected widows to create a livelihood and to provide their families with better food and housing.
  2. The provision of vocational and skills training, advice and support.
In Sri Lanka, we supported skills training for young people after the tsunami and we currently work with young adults in northern Tanzania and NE India.
The IT and computer centre in the Maasai region of Tanzania, recently funded by a London based corporate donor, was a breakthrough. It is enabling hundreds of children and adults to learn computer skills and knowledge of the word-wide web and thus improve their job opportunities.
  3. The provision of educational resources including teacher training, school buildings and equipment
Funding support for schools in the Himalayan regions of NE India and Nepal over several years has helped children from the poorest backgrounds to obtain an education and go on to secondary level.
Our current Nepal project, supported by a leading charitable trust, is enabling children in ten rural primary schools to improve their education through provision of extra teachers, additional buildings, libraries and equipment.
In Tanzania, thanks to funding from a corporate donor, we have built additional classrooms in ten primary schools as well as providing fresh water for pupils in these relatively dry regions.

How can I help?

If you would like to make a donation please visit our page on Just Giving.com.

You could also become a regular donor and help us expand our work by donating via standing order. You can download a form below, which should be posted to us (the address is on the form and also on the "Contact" page on the website). Included in the form is an opportunity to agree to Gift Aid: this entitles the Foundation to claim tax on your donation, which effectively gives us an extra 28p for every £1 you donate!

Another way to help is to donate some of your time. If you are interested in this please email info@mondofoundation.org to find out more about opportunities to do so.
